Miles Construction: The Future of Our Construction Workforce

Miles Construction Battery Plant

With deep roots in Nevada, Miles Construction knows that when companies move here, they’re not just moving their business to northern Nevada. They’re moving their employees, creating a new way of life and becoming integrated with our economy and our communities. For Miles, we know this is not just where we work, but it’s also where we live and raise our families. We’re invested in seeing our community succeed. Part of a successful and growing economy includes being able to provide the skilled workforce to fill needed positions as our region grows.

Miles believes that there is need for a paradigm shift. Our beliefs as a community need to change. There are more choices in life than either going to a university or flipping burgers. Students need to be encouraged to take another route if it suits them. There are career paths that have gone unfilled for several years and the pipeline of skilled workers is drying. Many of these career paths are well-paying, insured positions that allow the student to excel at their own pace. These careers range from mechanics to manufacturing and production to construction and each includes multiple directions. These jobs are important for the well-being of the community’s culture and infrastructure.

Miles works closely with Western Nevada College, a career college with three locations throughout northern Nevada. Miles worked with the school to help develop the curriculum for their Construction Management degree, allowing graduates to enter the workforce with exactly the real-life skills necessary to succeed and allowing Miles to have a say in what skills were paramount in new graduates.

Miles continues the relationship with WNC in providing ongoing opportunities for students to tour work sites and get more hands-on experience prior to graduation, preparing them further for that first day on the job.

In addition to being involved with education, Miles’ partners actively participate in the community by being involved on various boards, industry and economic development organizations. Miles’ current community involvement includes Boys & Girls Club of Northern Nevada, Nevada Builders Alliance, Northern Nevada Development Association and NAIOP.

We’ll continue to do our part to help build a better future for our community because it’s not only important to our business, but it’s important to us as residents, employees and neighbors.
