
The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) is committed to diversifying our economy and enhancing our quality of life by working as part of the community to create quality jobs, attract new companies and headquarters, supporting the success of existing companies and assisting in the formation of start-ups in the Greater Reno-Sparks area.
2017 was another remarkable year, with the addition of more than 2,800 jobs to the region from 29 new and expanding primary companies. International based companies, gigafactory suppliers, and technology companies also continue to find our region an ideal location for expansion and growth. With a focus on higher paying jobs, technology and advanced manufacturing EDAWN assisted jobs in 2017 had an average yearly wage of nearly $10,000 more than the previous year.
Our local economy also benefits from the investment these companies are making, not just in capital expenditures but also in research with our educational institutions and workforce development programs that support the changing needs of businesses. These investments are estimated to be nearly $200 million.
2018 already looks to be another year of strong business activity and growth in the Greater Reno-Sparks region. Along with economic growth there will no doubt be some challenges, yet as a community and with the support of our many business partners the future looks bright.
