Lewis Retail Centers Announces Safeway Ground Breaking

Future Home of Safeway

Lewis Retail Centers, one of the largest shopping center developers in Nevada and California for over 60 years, announced in July that Safeway has commenced construction on its new grocery store at the Damonte Ranch Town Center.

“When we initially planned Damonte Ranch Town Center, we felt that the location would be perfect for a high-quality neighborhood grocery store like Safeway,” said Robert E. Lewis, president of the Nevada Division of the Lewis Group of Companies. “Their new store will add to the strong retail activity at the center, and serve the increasingly significant resident population within the immediate radius.”

Safeway is one of 20 well-known banners owned by Albertsons Companies, one of the largest publicly traded food and drug retailers in the United States, operating 2000 ± stores in 34 states and the District of Columbia. Safeway’s Northern California Division operates over 280 stores across northern California, Nevada and Hawaii. This location will be the third store in the Reno-Sparks market.

The new store will total 62,000± square feet. Safeway will be the third major anchor at Damonte Ranch Town Center, joining RC Willey and Home Depot.

“Our company has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Safeway,” said Lewis. “Now that Damonte Ranch has been built out to include nearly 5,000 homes with another 3,000 homes immediately adjacent, the timing is right for Safeway to build their store and we are happy that the Damonte Ranch Town Center is the location they’ve chosen. Safeway will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and the center.”

Damonte Ranch Town Center is a 509,000± square foot center located at the corner of Steamboat Parkway and Damonte Ranch Parkway in south Reno. The location offers convenient access to and from Interstate 580 and sits adjacent to the Southeast Connector, which has provided ease of travel from key employment concentrations in the region. The center is part of the popular 2000±-acre Damonte Ranch master-planned community and an estimated 19,497 households are within a three-mile radius of Damonte Ranch Town Center.

Lewis Retail Centers is planning on designing and building more space which will be available to lease to retail tenants soon after Safeway opens its doors in Spring 2021.  Current tenants in the shopping center include Office Depot, CVS Pharmacy, 7-Eleven, McDonald’s, U.S. Bank, Mountain America Credit Union, Mattress Firm, The Twisted Fork restaurant, Starbucks, Subway, and many other local businesses offering personal and professional services. Lewis Retail Centers’ expansive portfolio is made up of over 9 million square feet of retail space developed within 34 retail centers in Nevada and California.
